DHT has call out for 'Annie'

Diamond Head Theatre will hold auditions for its holiday musical, "Annie," at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 and 30 at the DHT rehearsal hall.

The Broadway musical, based on the "Little Orphan Annie" comic strip, will run Nov. 30 to Dec. 16 at DHT.

It is noted for its carrot-topped lead, who sings such hit songs as "Tomorrow" and "A Hard Knock Life," with songs by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, and a book by Thomas Meehan.

John Rampage will direct and choreograph, and Emmett Yoshioka will conduct the orchestra. Roles for adults and children are available. Information: 733-0277.

Guitarist Linsky returns Sept. 22

"An Evening With Jeff Linsky," a blend of classical music and jazz, will feature the guitarist at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts theater.

Since leaving the Islands in 1988, Linsky has been a frequent returning artist. He has complete seven recordings of his own; one, "Simpatico," was nominated for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors.

HPU sets auditions for 'The Dead'

Hawai'i Pacific University will hold auditions for its fall season opener, "James Joyce's The Dead," at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7, 1 p.m. on Sept. 8 and noon on Sept. 9 at the HPU Theatre, 45-045 Kamehameha Highway.

Joyce Maltby is directing, with Mary Chestnut and Phil Hidalgo handling musical direction.

The play, by Richard Nelson and Shaun Davey, is based on Joyce's 1914 novella, set in turn-of-the-century Dublin and filled with Irish music. It centers on a Christmas party at which three generations gather annually to exchange memories and good cheer.

Roles for nine women and five men are available. Auditions will include singing and readings from the script. Some roles are nonsinging. Scripts for perusal on the premises are available at the HPU Windward and downtown campus libraries.

The play will run Nov. 9 through Dec. 9.
