Buddhists to gather for festival

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaii Association of International Buddhists, with the support of the Hawaii Buddhist Council, will hold the third annual Dharmachakra Harvest Moon Festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m Sept. 21 at the McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Beach Park.

The occasion will commemorate Buddha's first sermon, "Dharmachakra," or "Turning the Wheel of Dharma," which contains the core teaching of Buddhism. It is also through this sermon that Buddha gave his guidelines for living, the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.

The festival opens with a blessing by various denominations of the Buddhist community in Hawai'i. Performances of music, song and dance will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
