Kahuku grad wins national contest

Kahuku High graduate Nephi Tanuvasa, 18, is one of three national grand prize winners of The Princeton Review and Time Magazine "surviving high school" essay contest.

Among his prizes is a $1,000 college scholarship. More than 1,000 students submitted entries.


Race to help O'ahu schools

O'ahu's schools will benefit from entry fees for the Niketown 5, a 3.1-mile race down Kalakaua Avenue on Oct. 7.

The entire entry fee is donated to help pay for O'ahu's public and private school athletic programs and for playground equipment.

The entry fee is $15 for participants 13 and older, and $10 for children 12 and under.

Entries must be postmarked by Sept. 22. Forms are at Niketown and sporting goods shops. Call 943-6453.


Headmaster to stay at Hawai'i Prep

WAIMEA, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Preparatory Academy headmaster John Colson has withdrawn his resignation and will be staying at the Big Island school.

HPA Board Chairman Michael Fujimoto said Colson decided to stay for personal reasons.


Registration open for ACT

College-bound high school students who need to take an entrance exam have two opportunities to register for the ACT before the Oct. 27 test.

The postmark registration deadline is Sept. 21.

The late registration deadline is Oct. 5, but an additional fee is required. The regular test fee is $24.
