UH volleyball match moved to Nov. 21

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball match at Sacramento State will be on Nov. 21, according to head coach Dave Shoji.

UH officials had said the match would be played the day before. It was added to the schedule on Thursday.

The Wahine play in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament the previous week (Nov. 15-18) at San Jose State. They are in the Bankers Classic, at Stockton, Calif., Nov. 23-24.

The Wahine's next matches are against 20th-ranked Santa Clara, next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 21-22).

• Soccer team returns: The Wahine soccer team is scheduled to return to Honolulu today.

The team was on a three-match road trip to Idaho and Washington state, and was scheduled to return Tuesday before all flights were canceled due to the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.


HULA BOWL

• Japanese players coming: The Hula Bowl Maui All-Star Football Classic has announced all-star players from Japan will participate in practices and activities on Maui the week of the game.

The Kansai and Kantoh football associations of Japan will not be able to play in the college all-star game, which will be held Feb. 2, 2002, at War Memorial Stadium.

Football in Japan has seen an increase in popularity. The NFL has played preseason games in Japan in the past.


BOXING

• Salud on Oct. 12 card in Hilo: Championship Boxing Development Inc. has received preliminary approval from the Hawai'i State Boxing Commission for an Oct. 12 professional boxing card featuring former world champion Jesus Salud of Nanakuli.

The card, scheduled for the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, would also showcase some amateur bouts.
