The September 11th attack
Airlines resume normal schedule around Islands

Commercial airliners around the state were slowly getting up to speed yesterday, with no incidents shutting down any of the state's airports, as happened Friday.

Maui's Kahului Airport resumed commercial flights yesterday after a bomb scare Friday night. The airport was shut down for four hours after security workers found an unattended bag they initially believed contained an explosive device.

Spokespersons for Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines said there were no delayed or cancelled flights yesterday because of Friday's closure of the Kahului airport. Interisland flight service was also back to normal for the rest of the Neighbor Islands.

Gilbert Kimura of Japan Airlines said the airline is running on a normal flight schedule again with 11 flights arriving and departing Hawai'i.

The Federal Aviation Administration said private planes were grounded again yesterday for all Hawai'i airspace because of heightened security. The FAA lifted a ban Friday for private planes that fly by instruments.
