Henin meets Testud in Big Island finale

Belgium's Justine Henin, seeking her fourth Sanex WTA Tour title of the year, beat fourth-seeded Lisa Raymond 6-2, 6-2 yesterday to advance to the final of the Big Island Championships at the Hilton Waikoloa Village courts.

Henin, the top seed in the $140,000 WTA Tour event, will face second-seeded Sandrine Testud of France in today's final.

Testud beat Marissa Irvin 6-0, 6-1 in the other semifinal. Testud, ranked 17th in the world, is seeking her third career WTA title.

Henin, ranked seventh in the world, reached the final of this year's Wimbledon before losing to Venus Williams.


BRAZIL OPEN

• Seles beats Dokic for title: Monica Seles won the $1.025 million tournament yesterday, beating Yugoslavia's Jelena Dokic 6-3, 6-3 at Salvador, Brazil.

This was the first title for the top-seeded Seles since she captured an indoor tournament in Oklahoma City in February.

Earlier, Jan Vacek of the Czech Republic and Fernando Meligeni of Brazil advanced to today's men's final. Vacek defeat Alexandre Simoni of Brazil 7-6, 6-2. Meligeni downed Augustin Calleri of Argentina 7-6, 7-5.


PRESIDENT'S CUP

• All-Russian final: Marat Safin and Yevgeny Kafelnikov won semifinals yesterday to set up the first all-Russian final at the $550,000 event at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Safin, the defending champion and seeded No. 1, beat Sargis Sargsian of Armenia 6-7 (3), 6-3, 7-6 (5). The second seeded Kafelnikov eliminated Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-6 (8).
