BYUH women, HPU men run away

Advertiser Staff

Nina Christensen led a Hawai'i Pacific University sweep of the top three spots in yesterday's women's 5-kilometer race at the Brigham Young-Hawai'i Invitational in La'ie, but it wasn't enough to earn the Lady Sea Warriors a team victory.

Christensen finished in 17 minutes, 47 seconds, followed by teammates Sayuri Kusutani (17:50) and Lisa Blomme (18:18). Still, BYUH beat HPU in total points (38 to 46) as five Seasiders finished between fourth and 12th — led by Kristi Woolley (20:06).

The University of Hawai'i finished third with 47 points, followed by Chaminade with 113.

In the 8-kilometer men's race, Christian Madsen (25:51) beat HPU teammate Abdeslam Naji (27:15) and BYUH's Kyle Briggs (27:41) to help the Sea Warriors earn a team victory with 28 points.

BYUH (44) finished second, and Chaminade (55) third.
