Information: Windward Mall, 235-1143

Windward Mall after hours will echo with music and laughter "For the Love of Loyal" Oct. 7.

More than 35 entertainers and the mall itself will be hosts to a benefit concert for Loyal Garner, long nicknamed "The Lady of Love," from 6:30 p.m. until the last performer leaves the stage. All money from the $25 ticket sales will go to The Loyal Garner Medical Fund to help the singer with medical costs incurred in her battle with cancer. Only 3,000 tickets are available.

Among the confirmed entertainers are Local Divas (Carole Kai, Melveen Leed, Nohelani Cypriano and Loyal Garner), Kapena, Jimmy Borges, Sonny Ching's hula halau, Frank DeLima, Teresa Bright, Brickwood Galuteria, Hula Joe and the Hut Jumpers, Dick Jensen, Danny Kaleikini, Kanalo, Makaha Sons, Cyril Pahinui, Tau Dance Company and Vaihi. A few surprises can also be expected.

Windward Mall decided to be host to the event in honor of the role Garner has played with the mall and in the Kane'ohe community.

"Loyal is our voice," said mall marketing director Sandi Haunani Oguma. Garner's song "Ku'u Home O Kane'ohe" has been the mall's jingle for a few years and has won advertising awards.

Oguma approached Melveen Leed and Carole Kai just weeks ago about the idea. The two, along with "Local Divas" partner Nohelani Cypriano, responded with lists of entertainers and the concert was put together in just two weeks.

Tickets became available yesterday at the taping of the "Jan Ken Po" TV show at Windward Mall. Advance tickets can also be purchased from 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Hawai'i Theatre and 4-11 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Aloha Festivals Windward Ho'olaule'a. Other points of sale may become available; any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

Chairs will be available for kupuna on a first-come-first-served basis, and limited space will be provided for beach and sand chairs. Otherwise, seating will be on the floor. Mall retailers have been invited to stay open for the event.
