Police search for Puna girl

Big Island police are looking for a 14-year-old girl missing from her Puna residence since Sept. 5.

Joycelyn S. Medeiros is described as a 5-foot-3 Caucasian female, 110 pounds with a slim build, black hair and brown eyes.

Call Officer Peter Kualii of the Hilo Juvenile Aid Section at 961-2373 or the police nonemergency telephone number at 935-3311. Calls can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo, or 329-8181 in Kona.


Land seminar scheduled

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — The Kaua'i Public Land Trust and Kaua'i Board of Realtors are sponsoring a free seminar Friday on the management of lands held in trust for the public.

The session, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kaua'i Marriott, is titled "Stewardship of Our Special Places: Land Management Challenges, Practices and Island Style Models."

Victim of drowning ID'd

MAHUKONA, Hawai'i — A 26-year-old Hawi man who drowned Sunday while diving in waters off Mahukona in North Kohala was identified as Richard Baker III.

Bystanders pulled Baker, an Army employee, to shore around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.


Sunshine law event on tap

HILO, Hawai'i — Hawai'i County officials have announced a three-day workshop on the state's sunshine law and open government.

The free event is Oct. 4-6 in the Hawai'i County Council chamber. The first two days are meant for government workers and officials. The third day will be for the public. All three sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

West Hawai'i residents can take part via a video conference from Mayor Harry Kim's Kailua, Kona, conference room.
