Woolley, Madsen Runners of Week

By Michael Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Kristi Woolley and Hawai'i Pacific's Christian Madsen earned Pacific West Runner of the Week honors for their performances in last weekend's BYUH Invitational in La'ie.

Woolley, a senior from Spokane, Wash., ran a career-best time in the 5-kilometer race to help the Seasiders earn a team victory.

Woolley finished fourth overall in 20 minutes, 6 seconds, a marked improvement from the previous week when she placed 10th overall on the same course with a time of 21:42.

Madsen, a junior from Birkcrod, Denmark, dominated the 8-kilometer men's race with a time of 25.51, beating teammate Naji Abdeslam by 1:34.

• UHH fund-raiser: Hawai'i-Hilo's cross country teams weren't able to compete in the BYUH Invitational because of travel disruptions in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks. That didn't stop them from turning in some meaningful miles on their own track.

In lieu of the BYUH race, the program sponsored a fun run to benefit Red Cross relief efforts. The Vulcan Relief Run attracted more than 200 people and raised $1,200 in charitable donations.
