Garbin lifts Oregon soccer team

Freshman Nicole Garbin, a Baldwin High graduate, scored two goals Tuesday as University of Oregon's women's soccer team defeated San Jose State, 5-2, at San Jose.

Garbin was the Hawai'i girls high school Player of the Year the past two seasons.

She leads Oregon (2-1-1) in scoring this season with three goals.

Golf

• UH tees off tomorrow: The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will begin its season at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate tournament, tomorrow and Saturday, at Albuquerque, N.M.

The 20-team field features nationally ranked teams (according to Golf World): No. 2 Arizona, No. 10 Arizona State, No. 13 Nevada-Las Vegas and No. 19 New Mexico.
