• A silent vigil for peace and reconciliation sponsored by a coalition of local groups including the American Friends Service Committee Hawai'i Area Program, the Hawai'i Institute for Human Rights, Refuse & Resist, ADB Watch and the Hawai'i People Fund will be held today at 4-6 p.m. outside the Prince Kuhio Federal Building ('ewa side along Ala Moana). Participants are asked to bring ti and wear green as symbols of peace, unity, life and healing. The alternative site in case the gathering is not allowed at the federal building is 'Iolani Palace.

• The YWCA of O'ahu will have a "caring book" in the lobby of the Laniakea Center, 1040 Richards St., so visitors can express their thoughts about the Sept. 11 events. The book will be mailed to the mayors of New York City and Washington. Call the YWCA at 538-7061.

• Borthwick Mortuary will have register books available for signing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will be collected as part of a memorial to the attack victims. Register books also are available at the Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery office, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

• Dine for America, a partnership of restaurants and their employees, will hold benefit dinners in restaurants nationwide, including Honolulu, on Oct. 11. Proceeds go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Information: Elissa Josephsohn, 732-7733.

• Movie theaters, including the Signature, Consolidated and Wallace theater chains here, will donate 100 percent of proceeds from Sept. 25 ticket and concession sales at participating theaters to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and the September 11th Fund of the United Way.
