Improving teens' self-esteem, handling their raging hormones and helping them choose careers are among the topics that will be discussed at "Parenting the Adolescent in the New Millennium," an annual workshop, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Academy of the Pacific in 'Alewa Heights.
"We're hoping that parents will gain some insight that will help them communicate with their teenagers," said Dorothy Douthit, the academy's head of school.
The event will feature 10 guest speakers, including a lawyer, pediatrician and psychologist. Other topics to be covered include: the truth about rave parties and the drug Ecstasy; recognition and treatment of addictions; and team building. Parents can choose to work with three guest speakers, each in 50-minute workshops. The cost is $45, which includes lunch. The deadline for registration is Thursday. Call 595-6359 for more information.
