We want to hear kids' thoughts

The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks have frightened and angered many people. But they also have stoked the fires of American patriotism in a rare way. And they have moved people to think carefully about the pros and cons of living in this country.

The 'Ohana section wants to give some of America's youngest citizens a chance to voice their feelings. We're inviting young people through age 18 to write to the 'Ohana section on the theme, "What America means to me." Essays as well as poems are welcome. Excerpts from as many letters as possible will be printed. Write: What America Means to Me, 'Ohana Section, The Honolulu Advertiser, P.O. Box 3110, Honolulu, HI 96802, or fax 535-8170. Writers e-mail ohana@honoluluadvertiser.com if they're 13 or older. The deadline is a quick one: All letters must be postmarked by Saturday.
