TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE: "Everybody Loves Raymond," 8 p.m., CBS. Slowly, slyly, this has become a great show. Its sixth season opens with Michael reading a book he wrote, "The Angry Family." Then the aftershocks build. There are wonderful moments from Debra (Patricia Heaton), who may be the angriest wife on television, and from the often-perplexed Ray. The finale includes great scenes with the family priest (Charles Durning) and Michael.
TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE II: "Crossing Jordan" premiere, 9 p.m., NBC. Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy) has it all. She's bright and beautiful, with a medical degree and a career in forensics. She also has nothing. She fights with bosses and loses jobs. Now she has a fresh chance at her old job, back in Boston. There, her dad (Ken Howard) is an ex-cop, still searching for her mom's killer.
"The Weakest Link," 7 p.m., NBC. All six "Brady Bunch" kids compete, with Florence Henderson (who played their mom) and Robbie Rist (who appeared briefly as Oliver).
"Evolution," 8 p.m., PBS. Here is the start of a richly crafted project that will gobble up two hours a night through Thursday. Today's film alternates between experts and dramatizations of Charles Darwin and his bold creationist theory
"The Ellen Show" premiere, 8:30 p.m., CBS. Ellen DeGeneres is back to what she does best just being funny. There are no heavy messages here; her character is gay, but that's accepted casually. Instead, we get the rich humor of a lonely-and-successful dot.com whiz, returning to her ditzy mom (Cloris Leachman) and hometown. After tonight, the show will air on Fridays.
"Celebrity Adventures," 7 p.m., cable channel E! Kelly Wiglesworth takes Molly Shannon to Africa.
