BIG ISLAND
Big Island wooing kama'aina, others
The Big Island Visitors Bureau is seeking to bolster an industry-wide slump by generating more kama'aina and California visitor traffic.
Over a 45-day period extending into November, the organization will promote the Big Island as a visitor destination in an "Aloha California" media blitz around the Bay Area and in Southern California. The plan also calls for an eight-page color insert to appear during the third week of October in major newspapers in San Diego, Orange County, San Jose and San Francisco.
At the same time, more kama'aina packages will be made available to Hawai'i residents. Information is available on a newly created Web site, www.bigislandkamaaina.com
A second phase of the marketing plan will target Japan.
