Classic Vacation Group laid off two people from its 14-person staff yesterday in Honolulu in a round of cutbacks spurred by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company, which operates Classic Destination Management in Honolulu, laid off 220 employees and cut work hours for others throughout the company yesterday.
"There are a significant number of players out there that believe this is going to be a slow recovery," said Ron Letterman, Classic Vacation Group's president and chief executive. "We have downsized on the basis that this is going to be slow. If we're wrong, we can size up quickly. We erred on the side of caution and took deep cuts."
