Tonight's Must-See

"Reel Radicals: The Sixties Revolution in Film," 5 and 9:15 p.m., AMC. In the middle of the 1960s the movie world was transformed by sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. Still, many films did much more than exploit the youth market. The films sprang from new directors who were influenced by European films or TV's "golden age" dramas — who saw movies as a true art form. Tonight, we get clips of great films from "Bonnie and Clyde" to "The Graduate." We also get the memories of the directors who changed everything — Dennis Hopper, Arthur Penn, Norman Jewison, John Frankenheimer and more.

• "The Shape of Life" premiere, 9 p.m., PBS. Amid the tropical beauty of an Indonesian island young scientist Christina Diaz studies the sponge, which she considers the world's most fascinating creature. The sponge is remarkable in its simplicity and its resilience. When separated its cells will re-form. That could be considered one of the starting points of life. In the second hour we view other creatures. The series continues for two more weeks.

Of Note

"Frasier," 7 and 8 p.m., NBC. First is a so-so rerun with people coming to a costume party dressed as their heroes. Then Frasier and Niles visit their boyhood home and discover a murder mystery.

"Andy Richter Controls the Universe," 7:30 p.m., FOX. In one funny plot line, Jessica (Pachet Brewster) tries to party hard at night and be a proper executive by day. Meanwhile, Andy's mind and body are in conflict when he's dating someone who is beautiful, but anti-Semitic.

"Watching Ellie," 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. In the first episode, Ellie (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) takes tango lessons sometimes paired with her ex-lover. In the second, Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks") plays the wife of Ellie's boyfriend.
