McCLAIN: Business dean chairs committee
A 16-member advisory committee has been chosen to assist in the search for the next University of Hawai'i athletic director, the school announced.

The committee will be chaired by David McClain, dean of the College of Business Administration, and report to Manoa interim chancellor Deane Neubauer. The first meeting is today

The committee is scheduled to recommend an unspecified number of finalists to Neubauer in July. UH President Evan Dobelle has said he hopes to have a new athletic director in place this fall.

Hugh Yoshida, who has served as athletic director since 1993, is scheduled to retire when his contract expires in December.

Dobelle has said the school expects to pay about $180,000, the average salary of a Division I athletic director. It has yet to formally advertise the position.

Neubauer said the advisory committee, "represents a range of interests from the university and the community."

"We all recognize the importance of UH athletics to the people of Hawai'i and we know that our program needs strong and visionary leadership," Neubauer said in a release. "The committee will be looking for an individual with those qualities and someone who will also carry forward our strong commitment to higher education in the student-athlete equation."

Members of the committee, in addition to McClain, are:
