Hawai'i Craftsmen to hold fund-raiser

By Paula Rath

Gadzooks! Zügs is coming, and it might just be the shopping event of the season.

It's tough to categorize this annual fund-raiser for the Hawai'i Craftsmen, to be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at The ARTS at Marks Garage, 1159 Nu'uanu Avenue. Part garage sale, part estate sale and part craft fair, it's known to shopping sleuths as a great place to find all sorts of odd things.

Among this year's offerings: nine bags of wool yarn from New Zealand in yummy colors, old-fashioned film cameras and posters from the 1972 Olympic Games.

As this benefits an organization of artists, one can expect to see lots of artwork, art books, art supplies, folk art and handcrafted items in all media.

A premiere night, 5:30-9 p.m. Friday, will be catered by Ala Serenity, the Culinary Arts Institute at Leilehua High. Pupu, wine and music by jazz keyboardist John Toomey, as well as a preview of sale items will be provided for a suggested $20 donation. Admission is free for the Z¨gs sale Saturday.

Money raised will support quality arts education and help sustain the operations of The ARTS at Marks Garage. The sale is The ARTS' major fund-raiser of the year.
