Visitor drowns off Kaua'i beach
LIHU'E, Kaua'i One man apparently drowned and another was treated at Wilcox Hospital after waves swept them off the rocks yesterday morning near Queen's Bath on the north shore.
Firefighters found the two offshore, having been unable to get ashore in rough surf.
One man was not breathing and could not be revived. The other was having difficulty breathing. He was given oxygen and was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was treated and released.
A personal watercraft was used to bring the men, both visitors in their 40s, to shore. A third man was also washed into the ocean, but was able to climb back ashore.
The identities of the victims, brothers visiting from the Mainland, were not released.
Kalihi man arrested in Liliha beating
Police arrested an 18-year-old Kalihi man yesterday in connection with a beating and robbery of a 60-year-old man at a Liliha bus stop on March 22.
The 18-year-old man turned himself in to police at 12:40 a.m. yesterday and was booked on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree robbery.
Police believe three men participated in the beating and robbery of the man.
On March 22, witnesses called police at about 2 a.m. and reported an argument near the intersection of Vineyard Boulevard and Liliha Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in the boulevard's eastbound lanes, near the median strip.
Kalihi police said witnesses reported that the three robbers attacked the man while he waited for an eastbound bus at the stop just 'ewa of the intersection. The victim's smashed briefcase was found in the road, amid his scattered personal belongings.
He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he was last listed in guarded condition. A hospital spokeswoman said she had no information on the man yesterday.
Argument leads to crash in McCully
An apparent road rage incident Tuesday in McCully led to a two-car collision and the arrest of a 32-year-old man.
Police said the incident began at 4:20 p.m. when two motorists got into an argument in traffic. The 32-year-old motorist then rammed his car into the victim's car, causing both to crash near the intersection of Kapi'olani Boulevard and Pa'ani Street.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, identified the other motorist, who was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage. No one was was hurt.
