Critic's Choice: Stage

Mini-reviews of current stage productions, by Advertiser theater critic Joseph Rozmiarek

"Harvey": The Actors Group lovingly re-creates this hit from last season with a new director and refreshed cast. Sam Polson and Mary Frances Kabel-Gwin repeat their central roles in the charming story of an invisible white rabbit. Repeats 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through April 13, and 4 p.m. Sunday at Yellow Brick Studio; $10. 591-7999.

"Mame": A labor of love at Diamond Head Theatre. The show is fast-paced, colorful and deserves every good thing that people are saying about it. John Rampage directs, choreographs, designs costumes and may even have sold his soul to come up with something this good. Repeats 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays through April 14. Tickets are $10-$40, with some discounts available. 733-0274.

"Song of Singapore": "Do You Know There's a Dead Man in the Bar?" Well, the band can play it, and you'll be singing it, too, now that the Manoa Valley Theatre has been converted to Freddy's Place, a sleazy gin joint lost somewhere in Asia or the Pacific of 1941. Repeats 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. Sundays through April 14; $35 (discounts available). 988-6131.
