Ninth-ranked University of Hawai'i will close its home water polo season tomorrow against second-ranked UCLA. The match begins at 6 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine (10-10) are coming off a third-place finish in last week's Rainbow Challenge. Sophomore Chelsea Garner-Prohs scored 10 goals in the five matches.

Garner-Prohs leads Hawai'i with 36 goals. Senior Karin van Hoff has 29 and freshman Beth Novick 18. Van Hoff is first in steals (68) and assists (12).

Van Hoff and goalie Christa Tackaberry, a four-year starter, will be honored tomorrow. Tackaberry has a school-record 142 saves.

The Rainbows are 4-4 and tied for fifth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Bruins (15-3) are 7-1 and second. All three of their losses have come against top-ranked Stanford.

SURFING

Garcia, Irons move on: Hawai'i surfers Sunny Garcia and Andy Irons advanced to the quarterfinals of the Rip Curl Pro yesterday at Victoria, Australia.

The fourth round of the contest was completed yesterday in 3- to 5-foot waves at Bells Beach.

Garcia, the 2000 world champion, defeated Australian Jake Paterson, 22.50-20.35. Garcia faces Australia's Nathan Hedge in the quarterfinals.

Irons recorded some of yesterday's top scores to defeat fellow Hawai'i surfer Kalani Robb, 23.7-20.7. Irons clinched the victory late in the heat with a near-perfect ride of 9.0 (out of 10). Irons takes on Brazil's Renan Rocha in the quarterfinals.
