Hawai'i softball teams 1-7 in tournament

Hawai'i's Division II softball teams won just one of eight games during the first day of the Tournament of Champions at Modesto, Calif., yesterday.

Hawai'i Pacific defeated Western Washington, 6-1, but lost to Cal State Bakersfield, 4-1. In other games, UH-Hilo lost to Central Washington, 3-1, St. Martin's, 4-2 and Western New Mexico, 2-1. Chaminade lost to Western Washington, 2-1, San Bernardino, 2-1, and UC San Diego, 4-1.

The tournament runs through tomorrow.

BYUH shuts out Occidental: Kassiopeia Hood pitched her fourth shutout of the season and the Seasiders pounded 15 hits in a 12-0 victory over Occidental (Calif.) College Thursday in California.

Hood allowed two hits, walked two and struck out two in the game shortened to five inning. Crystal Elton had three hits and four RBIs, including a bases-loaded triple in an eight-run second inning. Keri-Ann Napeahi also had three hits including a run-scoring single and double in the second inning.

GOLF

Yokomoto, Lee to defend: Beau Yokomoto and Regan Lee will defend their title at the 13th annual Aloha Section PGA Pro-Pro Championship, Monday and Tuesday at Ko Olina Golf Club.

There are 38 teams entered in the 36-hole, four-ball stroke play event. Players tee off from 11:30 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Yokomoto and Lee shot 11-under 133 at Ko Olina last year, beating Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa by a stroke. Hayashi's partner this year is David Ishii, who won this event with Lance Suzuki in 1991.

BASEBALL

No-decision for Komine: Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine pitched 4á innings and for a no-decision in Nebraska's 5-4 loss to Oklahoma at Lincoln, Neb., yesterday, keeping alive his 16-game Big 12 victory string.

Komine (5-0) left the game with the Cornhuskers trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning. Nebraska came back to tie the game at 4 in the eighth before Luke Alexander homered for Oklahoma in the top of the ninth.

It was Komine's second no-decision in a row. Yesterday, he gave up six hits, walked two and struck out eight.
