FUN HOUSE
Girl finds it's not easy to pass on her pacifier

Our daughter Kayla would often find comfort using her "nukie," or pacifier, when we were overwhelmed or tired, and she usually carried two of them around with her — one for her mouth and the other to rub her nose. It was a habit that we used to chuckle about with Kayla.

We explained to her that when her third birthday came, she would have to give up using her nukies because, now that she was a big girl, the "Nukie Fairy" would be coming to take them away for other babies to use. She wasn't thrilled with this, but when she woke on her birthday, the "fairy" had come that evening to take them from our home.

About four months later Kayla was having a rough day. She hadn't slept well the night before and was whining and clearly felt very tired.

Out of the blue she ran up to us and cried, "Does this Nukie Fairy have a phone number? I really need to get those things back!"
