NORTH SHORE

12 homeless in Hale'iwa fire

A house fire on Hale'iwa Road last night left 12 people homeless.

No one was injured.

Firefighters received the alarm at 7:11 p.m. for the two-bedroom house at 66-777 Hale'iwa Road, said fire Capt. Richard Soo. The fire was under control by 7:45.

The cause was a cigarette left in a bathroom, Soo said.

Investigators were still on the scene last night.

Four units fought the blaze, which caused $100,000 in damage.

The Red Cross was assisting the six adults and six children, ages 8 to 15, left homeless by the fire.
