THE LEFT LANE
In the artist's honor

Janet Wyatt was an educator and an artist, and last week the Academy of the Pacific, where she was the headmistress from 1966 until her retirement in 1975, found a way to honor both her vocation and her avocation, naming the art building for her. A number of her watercolors and landscapes will hang in the Jane Wyatt Art Building.

Wyatt, who died March 13 at age 84, had lived in Hawai'i since1947 and was an innovator who brought fresh educational trends to the school, including a curriculum that took into account left- and right-brain dominance, student learning styles and multiple intelligences, and the use of counseling groups. She was a creative money raiser and created a scholarship program that is still in place.
