Jennifer Yoshimori, a belly dancer and cosmetology student at Honolulu Community College, chose head-to-toe white as her trendy look for spring.

Q. Why did you choose this look?

A. "Not a lot of people want to do white because they worry about getting dirty. But you're going to get dirty anyway, so why not?

"I like white because it makes colors pop. And it's bright and symbolizes purity and innocence."

Q. What features do you love?

"The jeans are comfortable and stretch. The top is really inexpensive, and I bought several so if it gets stained, I can just throw it away."

Q. Where did you first see the trend?

A. "In the fashion magazines — Vogue and Elle and Harper's Bazaar. All the designers are doing white this year."

Q. Where did you find it?

A. "I found the 'boyfriend beater' T-shirt at Sears in the boys' department. The jeans are from Wet Seal and the coral necklace is from Artlines. The sandals are by Joan and David — a friend gave them to me."

Q. Are these your dream items, or did you have to compromise?

A. "The necklace and sandals are dream items; the top and pants were cheap. Of course I'd want designer names, but I'm going to school and am on a budget."

Q. Where would you wear it?

A. "Shopping, to lunch or school."

Q. Where would you never wear it?

A. "To the beach or a park or somewhere where I could get dirt or grass stains. And not to a club — it's a pretty laid back look."

Q. What's a no-no?

A. "White pumps — never! Also, you need to get some color into the look, with accessories."
