Honolulu drivers who received traffic photo citations should continue to treat them as valid, state judiciary officials said yesterday.
"Persons who have a pending photo speeding citation must still comply with current law and follow through on the options available to them," according to a statement released by the judiciary yesterday. Those options include paying the fine, submitting a written statement, or appearing in person on the scheduled court date.
Failure to contest the citation or pay a fine by the date indicated on the ticket could result in a default judgment that could end up on a driver's abstract and increase insurance rates, officials said.
Jim Fulton, a spokesman for the city prosecuting attorney's office, said citation holders who are scheduled for trial should also show up as scheduled, at least until they are told otherwise.
