Critic's Choice: Stage

Mini-reviews of current stage productions, by Advertiser theater critic Joseph Rozmiarek

"Harvey": The Actors Group re-creates this hit from last season with a new director and refreshed cast. Sam Polson and Mary Frances Kabel-Gwin repeat their central roles. 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday at Yellow Brick Studio; $10. 591-7999.

"Mame": A labor of love at Diamond Head Theatre. The show deserves every good thing people are saying about it. John Rampage directs, choreographs and may even have sold his soul to come up with something so good. 8 p.m. today and Saturday and at 4 p.m. Sunday. $10-$40. 733-0274.

"Song of Singapore": "Do You Know There's a Dead Man in the Bar?" Well, the band can play it, and you'll be singing it, too, now that the Manoa Valley Theatre has been converted to a sleazy gin joint somewhere in Asia of 1941. 8 p.m. today and Saturday, and 4 p.m. Sunday; $35. 988-6131.

"You Can't Take it With You": The 1937 Kaufman and Hart comedy is full of wonderful parts and a large cast that will have you rolling in the aisles. 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays through May 5 at Hawai'i Pacific University Theatre. $14 general; $10 seniors, military, students, HPU staff; $5 HPU students. 375-1282.
