Advertiser Staff

The spectacular career of Predrag Savovic was crowned with the top honor at the University of Hawai'i Men's Basketball Team Awards Banquet last night at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel.

Savovic, a 6-foot-6 guard, was named the Art Woolaway Most Outstanding Player for the 2001-02 season. It is the second consecutive year he has won the award.

"There were so many things that he brought," UH head coach Riley Wallace said. "There was the 'I am Savo' personality that everybody embraced; the athletic skills — he was one of the best to ever play here; and the academic side of it. He was the whole package."

Savovic averaged 20.3 points and 4.8 rebounds as a senior this past season. He completed his three-year career as the fourth leading scorer in UH history, and the all-time leader in 3-pointers (178).

Savovic, who is originally from Herceg Novi, Yugoslavia, was a two-time first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection, and a third-team Academic All-America selection.

In addition to Most Outstanding Player, Savovic was named the Top Scholar-Athlete and the Top Free Throw Shooter.

Every starter won at least one award last night. The 'Bows completed one of the best seasons in school history with a record of 27-6, which included the WAC regular-season and tournament championships.
