LINDA K.K.Y. SCHATZ, and her husband, state House of Representatives Majority Whip, BRIAN SCHATZ (D-24th Makiki, Tantalus) are among principals and staff of online marketing and Web site development firm, Hubris Online.com, hired by Communications-Pacific Inc. The move will create a new Comm-Pac division, CP Interactive. Linda Schatz, formerly Hubris Online president, will be head of the division as a Comm-Pac vice president. Her husband, former Hubris Online principal, will be strategist. Joining the pair at Comm-Pac are Allen Galiza, former Hubris Online principal, now lead technical architect; and NESTOR G. TRILLO, new Comm-Pac interaction architect.

• Veteran magazine writer and editor SCOTT WHITNEY, most recently Honolulu magazine associate editor, has been named editor of Pacific Magazine. Both publications, along with Hawaii Business, and Hawaii Home and Remodeling magazines, are published by PacificBasin Communications.

• Canadian-trained hotelier, ROBERT WALKER, has been named resident manager of the Turtle Bay Resort, formerly Turtle Bay Hilton Golf and Tennis Resort, as the Kahuku oceanfront property undergoes a $35 million renovation. Before his appointment, Walker was director of operations for The Northland Inn luxury suite hotel in Minnesota, also managed by Benchmark Hospitality, a Texas-based management company. Renovation of the 485-room hotel at Turtle Bay, financed by new owners Oaktree Capital Management LLC, is expected to be complete in September, with its meeting and event space more than doubled. It will also expand one of its two golf courses and add a full-service spa.

MARK WAKATSUKI, recently assistant vice president and mortgage officer, has been promoted to vice president of FINANCE FACTORS LTD.'s Credit Administration Department. He will oversee the company's compliance with loan quality policies, as well as sales of real estate acquired by the bank through foreclosure.

PATRICK G. MURPHY has been promoted to president and general manager of AES Hawai'i Inc., a independent, coal-fired Campbell Industrial Park power producer. The Hawai'i plant, a subsidiary of AES Corp., is the company's sixth worldwide and is capable of providing about 20 percent of O'ahu's electricity. He is a former company vice president, and before joining AES in 1991, was shop supervisor at Propulsion Control Engineering, Honolulu.

• Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio hotel has announced the appointment of four travel and resort industry veterans to key staff and operations positions:

  • DANIEL BAYNE, who has served in similar capacities with Hawaiian Waikiki Beach, Sheraton Waikiki and Outrigger hotels, has been named director of group sales. He was most recently director of government and community relations for the now-bankrupt American Classic Voyages.
  • DAYA STRYKER, who was most recently director of food and beverage for a Westin property in Taipei, was named director of catering. He is a 20-year veteran of the food, beverage, catering and convention services, including at Moloka'i Resort; Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii; Princeville and Royal Hawaiian hotels; Hotel Moloka'i and Sheraton Maui at Ka'anapali.
  • LINDA NAKAIMA, New Prince Kuhio director of human resources, comes to the hotel after more than seven years in the same capacity with Kaua'i's Princeville Resort. She has also worked with Brewer Environmental Industries and Hilton Hawaiian Village.
  • JONATHAN HUGHES, new beverage manager, was the outside sale representative with Better Brands, Honolulu.

• Ladies Professional Golf Association professional CINDY RARICK has been named 2002 season touring professional for the two championship golf courses of Waikoloa Beach Resort. Rarick's career spans 16 professional seasons, placing her 48th in career earnings for current LPGA golfers, at nearly $2 million.

• Two appointments have been announced at local insurance companies:

  • JOAO W. SANTOS has been promoted from reinsurance and regulatory manager of property and casualty insurance carrier, Island Insurance Companies, to assistant vice president, reinsurance and regulatory manager. His responsibilities include reinsurance buying, rate and form filings, statistical reporting, and monitoring regulatory compliance issues.
  • JANICE TSUKADA has been named to the board of Hawaiian Insurance & Guaranty Co. Ltd. Her responsibilities include directing the company's underwriting and marketing.
