Kailua party called a success

Sunday's 10th annual I Love Kailua town party was a sell-out event, with the sponsoring Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle hoping the final tally would come to about $24,000, or 15 percent more than last year.

Some 3,600 entry buttons sold out at $3 a piece, and approximately 500 more people received buttons compared with last year, said event chairman Ed Libby. All 650 Kailua town T-shirts sold, and orders were placed for 75 more, Libby said. Bumper stickers also were popular.

The event featured Windward crafts and plant sales, children's entertainment, a taste of Kailua restaurants and information booths from organizations in Kailua.

Money raised by the Outdoor Circle goes toward its environmental programs.

Chevron spokesman Albert Chee said the company has repaired and improved the affected pipeline. He also said the company has implented a proactive environmental study and has increased the frequency of inspections.
