Local writer Jocelyn Fujii has been named the Small Business Association's Small Business Journalist of the Year for 2002 for Hawai'i and subsequently for SBA Region IX.

Having cinched top honors in Region IX, a large district that includes California, Nevada, Arizona and Guam, she now advances to the SBA's national competition in Washington, D.C.

"Her highly visible feature in the in-flight magazine of Aloha Airlines not only affords travelers a way to occupy idle flight time, but it allows all of us to sort through the daunting array of new, unusual and sometimes outrageous products and services," said nominator Eric Abdullateef, business specialist with the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. "Jocelyn has introduced so many people to the really 'local kine' things to do, the most 'ono kine' foods to grind and unparalleled sights to behold. She's showcased new talent and hidden gems, and keeps us all exploring Hawai'i."

She also writes for AAA Hawaii's lifestyle and travel publication, Hawaii Westways, and covers the Hawai'i arts and restaurant scene.
