Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Police Department installed a newly promoted deputy chief yesterday, topping a long list of promotions stemming from retirements and reorganization of the department.

Glen Kajiyama, formerly head of the department's human resources division, was sworn in as the second deputy chief. He will take charge of administrative operations.

Deputy Chief Robert Au, who was promoted two years ago, will run field operations, including patrol and investigative functions.

A total of 23 promotions announced at a ceremony yesterday morning include:

  • Karl Godsey, who has served as acting assistant chief of the Support Services Bureau since January, now promoted to the post permanently. Godsey's charge includes communications, records, communications, vehicle maintenance and information technology.
  • Paul Putzulu, formerly a major assigned to the Pearl City district, named assistant chief of the Police Department's new Executive Bureau. Putzulu will oversee the offices that handle informational resources, labor relations, the legislative task force, media and management analysis.
  • Also, Dave Kajihiro, to major in charge of human resources; Timothy Slovak, to major in charge of records and identification; Bryan Wauke, to major of the Pearl City district; Edward Nishi, to captain in the downtown Honolulu district; Milton Olmos, to captain in the central receiving division; Marie McCauley, captain in the East Honolulu district; and Jose Gaytan, to captain in the traffic division.
