Asian American author to speak
An author whose family used to rush to the television set when "someone Asian" was on TV is doing TV interviews herself this week in Honolulu, where she's continuing her campaign to stamp out stereotyping.
Helen Zia, author of last year's "Asian American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People," is in Hawai'i this week also to talk about the impact of Sept. 11 on Asian Americans and how events have shaped the image of the Asian population.
She will speak at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, 2454 S. Beretania St. A welcome reception begins at 5:30 p.m. on the fifth-floor lounge.

'Goldmember' it is
After months of legal wrangling, the shoot-out between Austin Powers and James Bond is settled, and the third installment of the upcoming New Line movie will be called "Austin Powers in Goldmember," due out July 26.
MGM had initially petitioned the Motion Picture Association of America successfully to ban the suggestive name, saying it infringed on the title of its 1964 Bond thriller, "Goldfinger." Part of the new deal stipulates that "any future titles that may be construed as parodies of James Bond titles will be subject to MGM's approval," according to a joint statement from the studios.
