Maui accident victim critical

KAHULUI, Maui — A 21-year-old Maui man remained in critical condition last night at Maui Memorial Medical Center after a head-on collision on Mokulele Highway near the Pu'unene sugar mill.

The man was driving a Nissan sedan toward Kahului shortly after 7 a.m. yesterday when the vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into a large delivery truck, police said. He remained trapped in his car until he could be extricated by firefighters.

The truck driver was not injured.

Kaua'i drowning victim identified

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — An autopsy conducted yesterday indicated that a Las Vegas man found Tuesday at Fujii Beach in Kapa'a drowned.

The victim was identified as Charles Emmet Carson Jr., 41. Carson had been staying at an apartment building in the area.
