Movie features several folks with Hawai'i ties

Kelly Hu, who plays the sorceress, has been a beauty queen and TV series star.

The Rock, who stars in "The Scorpion King," attended school in Hawai'i as Dwayne Johnson.

A third-generation wrestler, he is the son of Rocky Johnson, a notable wrestler, and Ata Maivia; his late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, also was a wrestling star.

Other Islanders in the film:

  • Kelly Hu (sorceress Cassandra) was Miss Teen USA ('85) and Miss Hawai'i USA ('95) and starred in TV's "Nash Bridges" and "Martial Law."
  • Branscombe Richmond (the king's brother Jesup) starred on USA Network's "Renegades."
  • Norm Compton served as The Rock's double.
  • Tanawai Reed, Bill Ryusaki, Bob Apisa and Al Leong are actors-stuntmen.
