Winning smiles
Hawai'i kids are among those with the winningest grins in a "Sweetest Smile" contest sponsored by the makers of French's mustard. Thousands of proud parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles nationwide sent in their favorite photos for the contest, and the top prize of a trip to a mustard festival went to a California family. But the Aloha State claims three of the contest's 25 finalists. Three-year-old Valerie Treuherz and 1-year-old Devin Makana Chotzen-Hartzel of Honolulu, as well as 1"-year-old Isaac Pauole of Hilo, Hawai'i, share runner-up honors. Advertiser staff
Coolest records
With the heat of another summer just around the corner, Rolling Stone Magazine has compiled a list of what its music scribes believe are the 50 Coolest Records of all time. The magazine's April 11 issue suggests a top five of (from the top): The Velvet Underground's "White Light/White Heat" (1968); The Rolling Stones' "Aftermath" (1966); James Brown's
"Live at the Apollo" (1968); Chuck Berry's "The Great Twenty-Eight" (1982); and the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique" (1986). Other chill picks included Massive Attack's "Protection" (1994, no. 8); 14) Prince's "1999" (1982, no. 14); and, of course, Frank Sinatra's "Songs for Swingin' Lovers!" (1956, no. 23).

Perilous fashion
It's not your average fashion show. Students of the Occupational and Environmental Safety Management Program at Honolulu Community College will model a collection of personal protection equipment in "Fashion L'Peril" 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. tomorrow at Ala Moana Center. On stage will be the latest designs in face shields, safety glasses, earmuffs and body suits to help protect against hazardous conditions. The event is part of Community College Day at Ala Moana Center.
