Humane Society helps many cope with loss of a pet

The loss of a family pet can be as traumatic as the loss of a human for many people.

• Humane Society donations in memory of a pet support efforts to protect lost, homeless and abused animals. When Carleton Rehr made a gift to the Hawaiian Humane Society in memory of Makai Dog, Carla Takaki, development manager for the humane society, noted, "Makai's memory lives on, helping to improve the quality of life for the animals and people of Hawai'i."
