Six hospitalized in Wai'anae crash

Two men were critically injured early yesterday in a collision in Wai'anae that sent six people to the hospital.

Police believe that alcohol and speeding may have been factors in the accident, which occurred at 1:35 a.m. at Plantation and Wai'anae roads.

Police said the driver of green 1996 Honda was driving left of center on Plantation Road when he struck a tan 1985 Toyota pickup truck coming from the opposite direction.

The Honda overturned, and firefighters were called to extract the four people inside.

All four occupants of the Honda and both people in the truck were taken by ambulance and Army helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center.

Late yesterday afternoon, two men, ages 19 and 21, were in critical condition, a hospital official said. Three people were in guarded condition, and one was listed in fair condition.
