Lee cushions lead in Mid-Pacific

Regan Lee fired a 4-under-par 68 yesterday to open up a three-stroke lead halfway through the Mid-Pacific Open at the Mid-Pacific Country Club in Lanikai.
Lee has a 36-hole total of 11-under 133 after opening with a 7-under 65 on Thursday.
Ed Tischler remained in second with a 69 for 136.
Kevin Hayashi (68), Beau Yokomoto (69), the 2000 Mid-Pacific champion, and Shinsuke Yanagisawa (68) were at 138. Casey Nakama, the 1996 champion, shot a 73 and is at 139.
Defending champion Larry Stubblefield shot even-par 72 and was in a six-way tie for 11th at 142.
Brandan Kop, the last amateur to win this tournament in 1995, shot 71 yesterday and is low amateur at 143. Paul Kimura (73), Shigeru Matsui (69), Mark West (74) and John Bascuk (72) were at 144.
The pro flight cut was a 3-over 147, while the cut in championship flight was 152 for the final two rounds today and tomorrow.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Pacific beats UHH: James Stanford pitched 8¡ strong innings and Tim Gilhooly batted 2-for-3, including a three-run double in the fifth inning, as Pacific beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 4-1, yesterday at Stockton, Calif.
Keola Park batted 3-for-4 to lead Hawai'i-Hilo (10-36-1), which stranded nine runners.
BOOK SIGNINGS
UH cagers at Borders: Head coach Riley Wallace and members of the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will hold book signings on Sunday at two separate Borders Books & Music stores.
Wallace and Rainbow Warrior seniors Predrag Savovic, Mindaugas Burneika and Mike McIntyre are scheduled to be at the Borders in Ward Centre from noon to 1 p.m., and then the Borders in Waikele Center from 4-5 p.m.
They will be signing copies of the book "The Rainbow Circle of Excellence." Both Borders locations will have copies of the book available for $14.95 each.
RUNNING
Marathon signup: Early registration begins at 10 a.m. today at Niketown in Waikiki for the 30th Honolulu Marathon, set for Dec. 8.
With a $10 registration fee, runners will be offered a chance to buy a $12 ticket to see Brian Wilson, founding member of the Beach Boys, at the marathon luau Dec. 6 at the Waikiki Shell.
