Main break cancels WCC classes

Advertiser Staff

A water main break at Windward Community College about 2:30 p.m. has resulted in the cancellation of afternoon and evening classes.

Crews are expected to make the necessary repairs and classes should resume by tomorrow morning, said Steven Nakasone, director of administrative services.

"We're calling students and faculty," Nakasone said. About 300 students attend 12 to 15 classes at night, he said.

The Board of Water Supply said the problem should be fixed in about two hours, Nakasone said.

The school decided to shut down at 3 p.m. after a water main broke near a road widening project on Keaahala Road, he said.

Denise De Costa, Board of Water Supply spokeswoman, said the break seems to be affecting only the college.
