Help available to meet tonight's tax deadline

Advertiser Staff

Today is the deadline for filing Hawai'i state income tax.

Returns or requests for extensions must be postmarked by midnight. Mail with insufficient postage will not be accepted.

Taxpayers filing in person may bring their returns to any district tax office.

For the convenience of O'ahu taxpayers, a yellow drop box for state tax returns is in the driveway on the Halekauwila Street side of the Princess Ruth Keelikolani Building at 830 Punchbowl St.

The State Department of Taxation will offer curbside service for last-minute filers on O'ahu from 5 p.m. to midnight. Taxpayers may drive up to either the Punchbowl or Halekauwila street sides of the Keelikolani building, where employees will be stationed to accept returns, extension requests and other documents.

You can still put off the inevitable. Anyone unable to file today should ask for an automatic four-month extension by filing a completed form N-101A no later than today.

Forms are available at any district tax office. For more information, call (808) 587-6515.

On O'ahu, forms are available after hours on shelves at the Punchbowl Street entrance to the Princess Ruth Keelikolani Building.

For information about filing electronically, visit the state Web site and see our special Tax Aid section.
