Owls top Buffanblu in ILH baseball

Ryan Basco batted 3-for-4 and drove in four runs as Mid-Pacific defeated Punahou, 8-7, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball playoff game last night at Ala Wai field.

The Owls scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.

The teams entered the game tied for second with 10-4 records. The win gives Mid-Pacific the second seed in the ILH Tournament, which starts Thursday.

Amorin ahead: Barry Amorin of Pearl City shot a 1-over-par 72 at O'ahu Country Club yesterday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association boys championships.

Hoku Dudoit of Roosevelt shot a 74, followed by Landon Mizuguchi of Kaiser at 75.

The opening round of the girls championships will be played Thursday at Hawai'i Prince, starting at 1 p.m. The second and final round for both boys and girls will be played next Tuesday at Pearl Country Club.

ILH team champs: Kamehameha's boys and Punahou's girls captured the Interscholastic League of Honolulu regular-season team titles yesterday.

Mid-Pacific's boys and Sacred Hearts' girls won Class A titles.

Travis Toyama of University High shot a 2-under-par 70 at Leilehua to lead yesterday's boys' field.

Lindsay Hong of Punahou, Mari Chun of Kamehameha and Jenna Seki of Punahou each shot 3-over 78 at Leilehua to lead the girls' field.

TENNIS

OIA playoffs: Farrington's Anthony Ilagan will try for his second straight O'ahu Interscholastic Association boys singles championship tomorrow.

Ilagan will meet Jamie Migia of Moanalua at 4 p.m. at Brigham Young University-Hawai'i.

Moanalua will also have a girls finalist when Juliene Yamamoto plays Campbell's Chloe Bihag, who finished third last year.

Doubles finals also begin at 4 p.m. Defending boys champion Arthur Phanphengdy of 'Aiea is playing with a new partner, his brother Siphathay. They'll meet last year's third-place team, Jeremy Perron and Joel Maeshiro of Mililani.

ILH playoffs: Top-seeded Derrick Lajola of Iolani advanced to the semifinals of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys singles championship.

Also advancing yesterday were Jon Farm of Punahou, Michael Wojnarowicz of St. Louis and Robbie Lim of Punahou.
