ISLAND STYLE
Anne Namba's spring line to debut at benefit luncheon

By Paula Rath
Advertiser Staff Writer

In the manner of truly talented fashion designers, Anne Namba's collections always offer something original and fresh. With her expanded showroom and studio (on Kamani Street in Kaka'ako) comes a new look for spring that will debut at Sunday's Japanese Women's Society fashion show and luncheon to benefit the Kuakini Geriatric Care Home, Hale Pulama Mau.

Namba's take on the career suit is anything but boring, and is even becoming a little more body-conscious. Her new mosaic print, in silk, offers a sophisticated look with a vintage patchwork feel. Her silk linens with reversible jackets and sleeveless shifts with kicky front slits will take the busy executive from day to evening with only a change of shoes. Neutrals with splashes of color help these ensembles work for any age.

The show, themed "1001 Cranes" as a nod to the tradition in which Island brides fold 1001 paper cranes for good luck, will have an evening and wedding collection as its finale. Namba's formal line combines sweeping chiffons in spectacular colors with panels of vintage obi for a stunning result. Her bridal collection, which seems to grow with every season, is the stuff dreams are made of.
