Coach Marty Schottenheimer said he didn't know if Fonoti — a second-round pick from Nebraska — would take part in today's practices.

"We'll certainly err to caution," said Schottenheimer, trying to turn around a team that has won only six games in two seasons.

Fonoti, a Kahuku High graduate, had a wrap on his knee while watching yesterday's afternoon practice.
