UH volleyball team gets NCAA berth

MALIBU, Calif -- "The Warriors are in."

So declared University of Hawaii men's volleyball coach Mike Wilton after learning today that the No. 2-ranked Warriors received an at-large berth to this week's NCAA final four at Penn State University.

UH will join No. 1-ranked Pepperdine, Ball State and host Penn State in the tournament that starts Thursday in University, Pa. Pepperdine received an automatic NCAA berth by beating UH yesterday in the championship of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament.

UH will be seeded second in the final four and will play Penn State 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Pepperdine will play Ball State in the opener at 11 a.m.

This will be UH's third final four under Wilton, who is in his 10th year at UH and whose contract expires in August. UH qualified for the final four in 1995 and 1996, finished second to UCLA in 1996.
