Oprah Winfrey and Bob Greene, her former personal trainer, are buying seven Maui shoreline lots from Hana Ranch near Hamoa Bay and at Lehoula, site of the first Hawaiian fishpond, spokesmen for Winfrey and the ranch said.

The two are planning to build two houses on two of six lots near Hamoa Beach, and one house, which Winfrey plans to build for herself, on a 102-acre lot at Lehoula. The talk show hostess' legal representative, Gideon Kaufman, said it will be some time before any construction begins.

"They told me that they want to preserve as much open space as they could," Kaufman said. "One house on 102 acres is a commitment to protecting the views."
