Pound mochi with the family

Boys' Day, also known as Children's Day, is a week away, so families may want to mark their calendars for the following festivities:

• Children's Day Celebration, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Market City Shopping Center, will feature a mochi-pounding demonstration and origami exhibit; free. 734-0282.
• Celebration of Hawai'i's Boys, presented by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. next Sunday at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, will include drawing and hat-making, a taiko drum performance, yo-yo demonstration and more; free. 945-7633.
